[01 Jul 2009|02:47pm] |
It seems like my life has been infected with vehicles - getting my bicycle prepped for work commute, losing my motorcycle key in the process of trying to bring it in to get duplicated (so I wouldn't have to worry about losing it!), and getting the Nova all pimped out for driving. It feels a little strange, yet still totally cool.
I had a bit of an issue with the helmet I ordered. Some asshat at UPS decided that my front step is (and I quote from the UPS web site) "Residential deliveries that do not require a signature may be left in a safe place, out of sight and out of weather, at the driver's discretion. This could include the front porch, side door, back porch, or garage area." So, apparently the steps in front of my house on a busy street equal "safe and out of sight and out of weather" I'm pretty sure I just lost $100 since I have not heard back from the company I purchased from and UPS says they can't do squat.
Volley Grill on Monday was a huge success. We had over 20 people show up. I totally sucked and wasn't on a single winning team, but it didn't matter with all the good company. I'm pretty fired up to play again next week. If you want to join us, please get hooked up on the Facebook group where to organize this .
I've been battling a few bouts of minor depression lately - and think today might mark an improvement. I'm feeling more motivated, and hopefully getting some of the outstanding to-do's will increase my mood. Really looking forward to the holiday break and spenidng some much needed time at the lake with Eric.

my grandma passed away last night. It was pretty sudden - only got the call that something was wrong at 5pm yesterday. Was waiting to see how her surgery went before deciding to head home.
Spending Father's Day in Milwaukee - without Grandma. Still feeling pretty numb about the whole thing. It's hard living so far from home.

| It's ALIVE........Tablespoon.com |
[17 Jun 2009|01:30pm] |
So, you know all those posts about how my life was totally nuts trying to launch my new work project? Well, its finally live! I'm so excited I can't even tell you. I've been working on this as a small, side experiment at General Mills for over a year now, and it is just so cool to see it come to life. ( The Story ) All that said, I want to share it all with you.
Tablespoon.com! http://www.tablespoon.com

So - now what? Well, I'd really love your help. The site needs people like you to go there and make it better. Without your ratings, new recipes, and profiles - the place seems empty. I'm hoping you'll check it out and see if you like it....could just be your new favorite recipe site. Here are a few things that you could do that would make me smile like whoa:
1. Sign Up! This site is still really far under the radar, so much that we haven't even shared with people that work at General Mills yet. It means you get the cats meow pick of your username!
2. Add your recipes! I know you have some great recipes. We spent a lot of time making it really easy to add recipes from scratch, and also 'version' existing recipes to make them your own.
3. Rate some recipes! We have over 25,000 recipes on the site - some good, some bad. Vote and bring some of the better ones to the top.
4. Create a profile! Add a user image, and fill out some details about yourself.
5. Send me some Feedback! I'd love to hear your comments here on LJ, or in person when I see you.
6. Come drink with me! Ok - that might be leading, but for real - I'm looking for a few folks to hang out with me on a weekday from 5-8ish, drink some beer/wine and basically run through stuff on the site and give feedback.

I'm not doing any work until Monday. I'm excited and I hope the weather is nice for some outdoor fun.
I do have to say, I am SOOOOOO EXCITED to announce and display what I've been working on for the past year. Though it won't be perfect, it will be good...and I think people will like it.
:) I think I might go take a nap.

| a itty bitty status update |
[18 May 2009|08:55pm] |
ugh. I am full on icky sick. Some type of eff'd up cold that came out of nowhere. My face feels like burning and most every part of my face is chapped.
That said, things are generally well. The great weather has allowed me to ride my motorcycle around, both to work and for fun.
Work ....well.....its rough now. My project is getting ready to go live and I'm putting in 12 hour days. Exciting and interesting because of the momentum and clear deadlines, but very hard when you're fighting the cold from hell. It also leaves me little time to myself or friends, though I doubt anyone wants this plague.
As for friendships, things are generally going well. There are some people I've sort of stopped reaching out to because I get the sense they might not be very interested in spending time with me, or I'm just sick of rejections. Others I've tried to reach out to and look forward to spending more time with. It's kinda funny that some of the friends I respect the most I've known the longest. I'm actually a little surprised at how happy I am to know people that I can still call friends after 8+ years in this city.
I'm going to take a hot bath. I hope everyone has a blast at Goth Prom. I won't be there due to illness, and I just can't stay out that late when I have to work at 7:30.
and also - I'm getting sick of twitter. I plan on using LJ much more often.

| I'm back |
[29 Mar 2009|10:14pm] |
I'm so proud of myself for staying awake this late. Holy jet lag.
My trip to Thailand was awesome. We did so many things that I hope to share tomorrow in more detail. I managed to injure myself and cry more on this trip than any other vacation. It was good to be away for so long. Made me realize a few things.
Now I'm going to bed with my hugely swollen feet from sitting on planes for 21 hours today.
If something important happened in the past 16 days, do let me know. I doubt I'll go back through all the posts.

Really......you should go.

| you're cheating on me...with twit who? |
[19 Feb 2009|11:10am] |
Its true. Twitter has taken over as my primary blog. Its just so much easier and doesn't require much time. I can take a minutes long break and scroll through stuff, and even easily interact with it on my phone. Sorry Livejournal - you're really just for philosophical debate and general "how are things going" updates.
- Well, things are going well..........
- I got sick, threw out my back, and have since recovered.
- Work is pretty intense, and all the volunteer stuff I've signed up for is exciting and keeping me busy, but overwhelmed at times.
- I am going to Thailand in 3 weeks and still don't have much planned.
- Have abandoned all organization at work and life hoping for it to bring some sanity. Wishing I could get back to my trusty lists.
- Even with all this stuff, I have to say I'm happy to be busy and doing stuff
- I haven't seen my friends much lately because of all this other stuff. Wishing someone would throw a party.
This is hilarious.

| Resolutions |
[05 Jan 2009|03:39pm] |
I don't normally do resolutions for the new year, but this time I made an exception because I really want to do these things, and it just happens to be the new year
1. get some whiter teeth. I've started with the white strips, but I'm also going to do my best to make sure to floss daily and use mouth rinse to help 2. finish reading Infinite Jest. I've finished my other books, and am in full swing. Its been 10 years...its about time to make it all the way through.
